Day Spa Skin Treatments Bad for Your Skin?!

I didn't think I would be posting on my niece's day spa blog, but when I read that the expensive facials I was getting could actually be hurting my skin (in a Hollywood article on Monday) I was devastated. 

In my panic I found my way to the online European news source: Dailymail. They always have the juicy tidbits from across the pond for the ladies. I read a story that sounded like mine that made me feel better. It is in their Femail section, and is a featured story about skincare treatments . The article helps you know what to ask for and what to avoid.

I won't lie. I have mature skin unlike the other posters on this blog, and I know I feel like my skin care investments have paid off.  Looks like facials are like any fabulous thing... A little bit will save your skin, but too much will damage it. I am glad I get my facials in a day spa that carries quality facial and skincare products and that has a well-trained staff.

Facials at the Day Spa Can Be Family Affairs!

I was talking to a friend the other day and she was talking about how there are many skin care products you can use at home and get salon quality facial results. I told her "What fun is that?" Sure if you're a teenage girl having a sleep over it might be fun, but having a facial done by a spa professional feels more relaxing and mature to me.

I know it was nice when my mom was in town recently and we got Dermalogica facials at the downtown San Diego mall. It was such a treat, even more so because we did it together. The smell was divine and really lifted our spirits. It did feel like leaving with a fresh face, and it gave both of us a better outlook on the rest of the weekend. We were happy to find a way to feel like a queen and a princess for the day, And have better looking skin!.

Day spas are Not just for women anymore

Men are finding their ways to day spas and getting spa treatments like facials. It's not just the guys from Big Brother and it's not just Americans. In fact there has been a lot of growth in the day spa industry for men in India and China. No huge surprise here: As men get more financial opportunities, they use it to look and feel good!

Spa treatments are an estimated $250 billion dollar industry each year. Day spa usage is up in cutting edge cities all over the world and San Diego is no exception.

People can think men getting day spa treatments like facials is silly, but the joke is on them. Personally, I am not feminine enough to make time for working on my own skin, but I Can show up and let someone else who knows what they are doing help me.

Day spa services are great like that: getting pampered And rejuvenated at the same time! That's how I compete with all the fresh faces: with a fresh, relaxed face of my own....Thanks to the revitalizing hour at my Favorite Day Spa!

Facials make you happy.  Seriously.

I always wondered why I like to get a facial at a day spa.  I was watching Big Brother recently and Brendon and Jeff got facials.  You would have thought that they took a happy pill!  They talked about how they looked and how they had applied the treatment.  The mood was light and trippy.

The mood inside the day spa I'm going to is so important to me. I think what is surrounding the spa's location can effect its mood.  For example: If I hear grocery cart clanging it can ruin it for me by reminding me of grocery shopping.  Facials are a happy distraction, at least for me. When I get one at the mall it is like coming out of a feel-good movie.  I love the feeling.

San Diego is a land of shopping and spa enchantment. You hate to say it but the shopping is HEAVEN. Outdoor high-end malls like San Diego's Fashion Valley and Horton Plaza come to mind, when I think Fabulous Shopping and great Day Spas.

I love getting a facial while shopping. I feel so glamorous when I am at the day spa having a  facial with some luxurious organic ingredients. "Me time" can really pay you back in confidence. Spa treatments like facials do that for me.

I love the other posters' comments....This is a dreamy spa blog.

I know this great day spa in downtown San Diego - Horton Plaza mall where you can get a wax, an organic facial, and then get a tan!  Sounds like an interesting mix and it is. It's pampering and revitalizing at the same time. The employees are top notch too.

Finding a Day Spa in San Diego

My friend asked me to post some information that might help people visiting San Diego find a day spa, like I recently did.  Vacation.....time to relax and de-stress with a spa service.  In the whirlwind of life there is nothing like taking time out to just relax.

A day spa can almost mean anything now a days. I know I have gone to what I thought was a day spa, and it turned out to be a small unit in an outdoor strip mall next to the grocery store. To me a day spa needs to either be within a high end mall, part of a luxury hotel, or holding its own in a building somewhere.

I know I have really enjoyed getting facials and other treatments at the spa when I come to San Diego on vacation.  It makes me feel fabulous in every way.  I hope when you take your next vacation you find a great day spa too.

Besides the day spa's location you have to consider their treatments.  Look for natural or organic spa products.  What ingredients do they use in their facial scrubs?  And look at their online reviews. Nothing says more than people who have tried it.  Look for originality in your day spa. If there are like 20 locations in the metropolitan area, you might want to stay away.  Quality and quantity rarely go together.

Well, that's my best advice for vacationers going to day spas in San Diego and elsewhere. I hope it helps!

You always see the cucumbers on the eyes and the white creamy cleanser on the women's faces in the "girls day out" montages. Today the king of spa treatments is still the facial. Why? I think it's because of eye contact.

One study done at UCLA showed that 93% of communication is visual. Since the face is the frame for the eyes: When it's shiny, clean, and bright (like after a cleansing facial or peel), it encourages communication. This establishes a friendly start when interacting with others.

So having a healthy skin tone from your trip to the day spa can really improve how your whole day goes!
