Putting Your Best Face Forward: Why Facials Are Here to Stay

Why have facials endured as a world known spa treatment?

You always see the cucumbers on the eyes and the white creamy cleanser on the women's faces in the "girls day out" montages. Today the king of spa treatments is still the facial. Why? I think it's because of eye contact.

One study done at UCLA showed that 93% of communication is visual. Since the face is the frame for the eyes: When it's shiny, clean, and bright (like after a cleansing facial or peel), it encourages communication. This establishes a friendly start when interacting with others.

So having a healthy skin tone from your trip to the day spa can really improve how your whole day goes!

Spas and Facials on Vacation - Not What I Expected

When I go on vacation, I want to relax AND have an exciting time of course.  The goal is to create memories, and to come home refreshed and energized.

2 of my San Diego girlfriends and I took a trip to Las Vegas last week, and hit up some of their luxury spas.  Some of them did have some fresh new treatments that were great, but one thing unfortunately stuck in my mind: I found out that because they get most of their business from tourists, a few of the spas don't have much incentive to provide killer service to encourage repeat clientele.  That's really too bad.  At first I just thought it was just my spa esthetician, but one of my girlfriends said she noticed it too.  The staff girl at the day spa even said that they are encouraged to be quick and not go above and beyond.

I'm not going to name spa names here, because it might have just been the stressful season for the spa staff - but I'm glad I go to a day spa in San Diego that is a hit with vacationers AND the locals.

A relaxing facial is only so relaxing when the spa staff is watching the clock.

If you have any feedback about experiences like this, let me know!

Getting Facials at The Spa - With a Halloween Theme!

Organic, Halloween Facials

So my girlfriends and I thought we'd get our faces all toned and relaxed before going out on Halloween night, to a house party our friend was throwing.  We went to Horton Plaza and got the - I kid you not - "Organic Pumpkin Peel".  The name does describe what it is: a facial peel with organic ingredients in the masque.  But it really left our skin soft and smooth.  Halloween or otherwise, I would recommend not only this San Diego day spa, but the Organic Pumpkin Peel facials to anyone.  It was an hour of calming bliss.  You can get a coupon for a facial, or any other spa service, at Platinum Tan and Spa's website

Let me know what you think!

Getting a Facial for a Saturday Night in San Diego

I sometimes go to the day spa to get cleansing facials, after a long work week.  Besides cleaning out my pores and tightening up my tired face, it is really relaxing.  This afternoon though, I went downtown in San Diego to the urban mall of choice - Horton Plaza.  For tourists it's neat to see for the first time becaus of the alternating levels, walkways, and unique architecture.  If you're a local San Diego native, you know it's got some neat little stores, Macy's, and the staples - Victoria's Secret and a great day spa.

I wanted to get a facial that got me refreshed for the long, fun evening I had planned.  Right after writing this post, I'm going to get dressed to go out.  My skin is going to get its share of make-up, smoke, and probably exhaust between the restaurant and clubs.  At least it's starting off the evening clean, relaxed, and tone.

I chose the day spa's European signature facial, done with Dermalogica products.

Hope you have a fun evening, and I'll post again soon!
